Week 9: Tourist sights and mini snail bites
One of the books that is used at our school. I am very familiar with pea in the sea if you know what I mean.
Another night, another night market.
This is how we spend most evenings here. Sweating our heads off and eating fried corn on the cob.
TASTY CORN
Zac loves corn more than anyone loves anything
Also eating snails.
So this is a bus map. This is what we have to read in order to get around. It's actually not as hard as it looks.
Found a Buddha wall on the way to Nanfeng Kiln. Spot the one that is different!
Some painted ceramic nonsense.
This wood is used in the kiln. Isn't this place incredible?
Here's the dragon kiln, which is slightly less old and therefore slightly less famous. It was only five feet from the Nanfeng kiln though.
Some fire god.
A cooler fire god. Don't know why I'm doing that with my feet.
Vertical ceramic sculpture art.
Here is the legendary kiln. I flew 7,000 miles for unforgettable experiences like these.
Some kiln data.
The entrance to the kiln area had 15 big Bruce Lee statues. Why? No one would tell us.
Commemorative!
Here's the actual chimney for the kiln. It was, as you can see, quite a long way away.
I've been shouting "BE CAREFUL BUMPHEAD" at Laura all weekend.
"The manger fountain"
Found some random old Chinese Propaganda Art inside the Nanfeng Ming Dynasty town district. I'm pretty sure there are no deer in China so I dunno what's up.
This banyan tree is growing out of the kiln. It has therefore been marked as a holy site.
Cute street
Cute couple
The pot fountain was closed for cleaning
Strange grasshopper statue
The legendary toilet fountain
Entrance to Xiqiao Mountain
Not sure if I have brought this up yet, but a good 60-70% of the women who go mountain climbing and hiking in China do it in high heels. I have no idea why, but here's the proof. This lady's heels are actually quite tame compared to most of the ladies I have seen.
Beginning our climb up Xiqiao Mountain. I took this from a bathroom!
Our friends Nathan and Shebaum
Senior Picture 1996
Laura dropped a waffle and started a FRENZY
Some people doing Tai-Chi
The ascent has begun
The plaque over there says that this bridge was built to commemorate when a man in the 1600s met a fairy woman here and granted him a wish. According to the plaque this REALLY HAPPENED
Found the fairy!
Climbed through a cave
I told Shebaum I liked to take pictures of people taking pictures
Adventure seeker
Waterfall
I think I got water all over the front lens from taking this picture
World War 2 memorial, or as they call it:
There was a lake near the top of this mountain too
Our first few of the Buddha
The rolled out the red carpet for us!
Only a few hundred thousand steps to go
I took this picture because A) I like the stone art, and B) That adorable child's adorable shirt says "Bro Power"
Most stereotypical looking Buddha. We're never supposed to take pictures in temples but I snuck this one.
I keep getting closer and she keeps getting bigger
This Buddha tho
See what I mean about the water on the lens? Disappointing
This is probably the best shot indicating the size of the statue, but it really doesn't do it justice.
Inside the statue
One of these things is not like the other
View from the top of the mountain
